Role of IRBIT protien in development of behavior

The protein IRBIT has been identified by scientists as a key player in preventing hyperactivity and abnormal social behaviors from developing. The protein IRBIT is abundant in dendrites--the parts of neurons that receive input from neighboring axons. New work shows that IRBIT plays a role in regulating dopamine levels in the brain and that its absence can lead to both hyperactivity and abnormal social behavior.
